Learning outside of the regular school setting is important to us. To give students opportunities to expand and apply their learning, extracurricular activities and experiences are meaningfully integrated into the freshman and sophomore teams. Additionally, AIS regularly hosts and plans other events such as the annual CHS CultureFest.
Model UN Conferences
In the 2017-2018 school year, 9th and 10th grade AIS students will attend a Model United Nations conference. All 9th and 10th grade students will be expected to complete all required research and position papers, and they will be expected to take an active role (as appropriate) at the conference.
9th students will be attending a local Model UN Conference at either the University of North Carolina or Duke University. The 10th grade class will attend an out-of-state Model UN conference in order to provide a more rigorous and unique experience. The location of the conference will be determined based on cost and quality of the conference. We aim to keep the cost of this trip at $500 or less. Limited financial assistance is available.
During their Junior and/or Senior years, students are strongly encouraged to participate in at least one of the many international trips offered by various groups at CHS. In the past, students have visited the Dominican Republic, China, Ecuador, Spain, France, Nicaragua, and others. These trips vary year to year, as do their objectives. Some are focused more on service learning, while others are more tour/sightseeing based. Please see the sponsors of the trips for more information.
